Welcome to 2023!

Hello everyone and happy new year!

Firstly, apologies for the lack of new content but 2023 is a new year and full of new adventures!

The reason I haven’t posted very much is I was asked to write a chapter for a new book that is due to be released in April 2023.  It is written by Roy Maloy of the Dawn of Crime series, the Squizzy Taylor biography and also Dolly Gray – Madam of Melbourne.  The new book will be called “The Australian Ripper” and contains accounts of murders that have a “Jack the Ripper” feel to them!  I contributed a chapter on the Australian suspect, Frederick Bailey Deeming who was responsible for 6 murders – two of his wives and his four children on two continents.  He is a very interesting man and will be the subject of a podcast later in the year!

I am about to record our first episode for 2023 which is titled “The Body in the Window” and concerns the McIvor gold escort robbery and the subsequent execution of three men.

The next one after that will focus on Owen McQueeney the fourth man executed at Geelong Gaol and responsible for the death of Elizabeth Lowe which became known as the Green Tent murder.

2023 also marks the 170th birthday of the Geelong Gaol with it being proclaimed by Governor Charles La Trobe on 23rd April 1853.  We have much in store and if you check out the Geelong Gaol Museum Facebook page you will find our series of “On This Day” posts.

I am currently researching and organizing my notes so that I can publish a book on the goal history by Christmas of this year.

So, all in all, a remarkably busy year is store! I hope you will stick with us through all our crazy adventures this year and we will keep you up to date through this blog!

And last of all, I am constantly blown away by how many of you have listened to the episodes that I have published so far!  I am so appreciative of every one of you who has taken time to listen to the ramblings of a historian who loves the true crime stories of the past!
