Introducing “In Her Words”

Hey everyone,

It has been a little while since I posted but I thought I would update you on what is happening in the world of Locked Up With History.

I am currently writing a book on the 25 women who have been executed on Australian soil.

It is called “In Her Words” which is my nod to the fact that many of these women were silenced during their own lifetimes – a way to give them a voice back and to look at what happened with their crimes but also what happened in their lives and what society and the laws were like a the times these women intersected with history.

I have become increasingly passionate about the women’s stories through the Criminal Outsider presentations I have done with Roy over the past few years. And of course I have always been interested in murders and executions for a very long time.

The book will then become the basis of a show I will be presenting at the Adelaide Gaol in March 2026 as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

It will be a one hour show talking of the 25 women and an overview of laws and society. I am grateful that Ash Tonkin, the wonderful LQBTQI+ true crime historian and author has agreed to be a part of the show as well.

On top of the presentation, there will also be a one hour around the Adelaide Gaol talking of the only woman executed in South Australia – Elizabeth Woolcock.

As part of the leadup to the Fringe, and to keep myself accountable, I will be trying to post her regularly and to get out another podcast or two on these women.

So stay tuned ….

Deb
